Esmay is a deeply personal, produce-driven restaurant by Chef Alanna Sapwell-Stone, now open in Adelaide. Set within the former Hackney Hotel — a heritage-listed building dating back to 1883 — the space has been carefully restored. Original fireplaces and stained-glass windows remain, bringing old-world charm to a fresh, thoughtful beginning.
Inside, the intimate 40-seat dining room blends quiet refinement with historical character, reflecting Esmay’s guiding philosophy: warm hospitality, seasonal produce, and food that nourishes in more ways than one.
For Sapwell-Stone, reimagining this space from the ground up means considering every detail — from the music and lighting, to the subtle ‘nanna move’ of sneaking nutrient-dense vegetables into dishes. If you walk out feeling good, there are many reasons why — some you’ll notice, and others you simply feel.

We are happy to accommodate dietary requests but ask for advance notice of at least 72 hours for events and private dining. Dietary requests cannot be accommodated on the day.
Is there parking available?
There’s a public car park on the corner of Richmond St and Hatswell Street, which is approximately 70 metres from Esmay.
Is Esmay wheelchair accessible?
Yes, Esmay is wheelchair accessible. We ask that you please let us know prior to your reservation so our team can arrange the best access for you.
Do you charge corkage?
Esmay hosts an impressive wine list with a great focus on local beverages and also international representation. We do not allow BYO/corkage.
